I Want to be a Writer. Now What?

I’ve always loved writing.  Ever since I was little, I’d write diaries, poems, plays, short stories, and anything else that came to mind.  In school, english was probably my best subject and writing essays were a breeze.  I’ve always been obsessed with reading.  I think that is very important when becoming a writer.  You have to love reading.  The more you read, the better vocabulary you have.  It also helps your imagination and helps you to form opinions about many things.

Surprisingly enough, I do not really like writing fiction now.  I prefer writing about informative things.  I love discovering everything I can.  Learning is my life’s work.  Everyday I learn more and more about being a mother and a wife.  Its the best job in the world.  As I’ve mentioned before, I am a stay at home mom and would never want to go to work if I did not have to.  Being home with my children is the greatest thing in the world.  I’d have to say they inspire me to go after my dream. 

I spent so much time trying to please others and choose a career that people would look up to me for.  After starting a family instead of attending college for a second year, I reevaluated my life and thought long and hard about what I love and what I’m good at.  Yes, I love reading and writing, and I would like to believe that I am good at it.  However, what I am really good at is being a mother.  Having my first son was the best thing that ever happened to me and now that I have another son, its like a dream come true that I never knew I had.  They inspire me to be a better person for myself instead of others.  I realize that in loving myself, I can love others better.  I no longer worry about other’s opinions, only those of my children.  I want to be the best I can for them.  I want them to look up to me as not only a mother, but a role model and a teacher.  I want them to look at me and see that despite what people tell you, you can succeed in anything you want.  Just because someone else does not approve of your choices, does not mean that you cannot succeed in doing so.   Success is about making yourself happy.  My children make me happy.  My husband makes me happy.  WRITING makes me happy.  So I would have to say that my life is my inspiration.
